In fact, as someone who regularly reads reviews of these things, I simply don’t buy animated films in 4K because the difference is just so minute. The problem is that even a 1080p upscale (purely through a blu-ray player connected to a 4K TV) has a very minuscule difference in terms of detail. Most CGI animated films are rendered in 2K and recent (although rare) 4K releases so far, are just upscales. It’s not so much that they can’t, but more that there’s very little reason to.
